February 15th, 2013

Somersworth High School senior Rachel Hill has officially committed to the University of Connecticut’s women’s soccer program by signing a National Letter of Intent on Thursday, February 14th.  Hill will join Huskies this fall as they compete in the Big East, after finishing with a 9-8-2 record in 2012.

Hill broke a 17 year old NHIAA record on October 16th when she scored a hat trick in an 8-0 victory over Kingswood HS.  Hill’s three goals, #147, #148, and #149 for her career, tied and broke the old record held by Courtney Banghart of Souhegan (147 goals).

The list of notable accomplishments Hill has achieved in her young soccer career is quite impressive.

The list of notable accomplishments Hill has achieved in her young soccer career is quite impressive.  As a U14 and again as a U16, her Seacoast United team won the Super Y National Championship title.  In the 2011 tournament as a U16, Rachel was named to the All-Tournament team after her performance throughout the event.  The Super Y League consists of regional games throughout the summer months and those teams who qualify advance to the North American Finals held in Florida early each December.

This past fall, Rachel broke a 17 year old NHIAA record on October 16th when she scored a hat trick in an 8-0 victory over Kingswood HS.  Her three goals, #147, #148, and #149 for her career, tied and broke the old record held by Courtney Banghart of Souhegan (147 goals).

Hill has been recognized by the Super Y Olympic Development Program as well, receiving an invitation to the ODP National Camps at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida in both 2010 and 2011.  Players nominated for these camps are identified as the top players within their birth year and are also among the top 2% of players in the Super Y league from across the country.  She was invited to the US Soccer National Training Camp in Carson, California during the spring of 2012 through her exposure at both the Super Y Finals and ODP Camps.

Last spring, her U17 Seacoast United team was crowned NH State Cup Champion and USYSA Region I Finalists.  The team travelled to England and Scotland in late July for friendly matches against Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers’ women’s teams before competing in and winning the Loch Lomond Youth Soccer Festival in Stirling, Scotland.

Rachel made her debut playing for the Seacoast United Phantoms in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) in June of 2012 as a 17 yr old, where she faced competition from collegiate and post-collegiate players.  In her first game, she scored the lone goal to lift the Phantoms to a 1-0 victory over perennial Northeast Atlantic Division powerhouse New England Mutiny.

“A tremendous athlete who has a fantastic work ethic,” commented Seacoast United’s David Burgess, who coached Rachel’s U14 Super Y championship team.  “She deserves all the recognition she is receiving.”

Hill, who first came to the Club as a U13, will continue her soccer career at Seacoast United with the U18 Girls Premier team for the spring 2013 season before returning to the Phantoms roster for the summer of 2013 in preparation for her first collegiate season this coming fall.

Seacoast United is extremely proud of Rachel and her accomplishments, and wishes her the best of luck this year as she enters her freshman year at UConn.
