The Seacoast United Pirates travelled to Vero Beach, Florida for the annual Treasure Coast President’s Day Challenge at Historic Dodgertown, taking place February 11-15th, 2016.
Four different age groups were represented (11U, 12U, 13U, 14U) by the Pirates, with each group having their own unique tournament experience.
The 14U Pirates team went 3-1 in pool play, beat the GRB Rays 3-1 in the semifinals and capped off the tournament championship with a 17-15 win over PA Playmakers from Philadelphia.
“It was exciting to win our first Florida tournament. It speaks highly about the amount of work these players have put in and how far the organization has come,” said Seacoast United Director of Baseball Scott Dubben.
Members of the 14U team included Jack Russo and Calvin Hewett (Portsmouth), Alec Lawry (Exeter), Cade Thompson (Stratham), Jake Pike (Fremont), Nick Guerin (Rye), Riley Linn (York, Maine), Garret Roberts (Stratham, NH), Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, NH), Mike Leonard (East Kingston) and Kyle Wolff (Stratham).
The 11U Pirates went 1-3, beating Old School Baseball out of Michigan, 15-0, in their final game of the tournament. Members of the 11U team included Frankie Brown, Jacob Fredricks, and Chris Capezzuto (Hampton), Daniel Cammarota (Cape Neddick), Owen Tahnk (Newburyport), Charlie Antonopoulos (West Newbury), Dominic Stocker , Kevin Tilley, and Owen Batemen (Seabrook), Ethan Nowak and Ty Mitchell (Hampton Falls).
The 12U Pirates went 0-4 in the tournament, but held a lead in every game they played. Members of the 12U team included Jack Lacouture and Zach Strand (York, Maine), Peter Georgakilas (Somersworth), Zach Ferris (Newfields), Duncan Cullinane (Portsmouth), Kolten Williams (Kingston), Cam Hussey (South Berwick, Maine), Sean Celona and Drew MacDonald of Amesbury, Mass., Colin Marshall (Greenland), Keller Coppeland (Exeter).
Aside from the tournament competition, both teams were fortunate enough to meet former Boston Red Sox first-baseman Victor Martinez. Many players received autographs and pictures with the MLB star, an experience they won't forget.
The U-13 Pirates went 1-3, beating Old School Baseball of Michigan, 5-1. Members of the U-13 team included Cam Fregeau, Tristan Winder, and Chase McLeod of Rye, John Fuccione (Kingston), Owen Rand (Greenland), Andrew Trogler (Rochester), Simon Pierce (Durham), Kosta Mocklis (Newfields), Ryan Eaton (Seabrook), Harrison MacDougall (Barrington), Lucien Mason (Stratham) and Logan Elmore (Brentwood).
